Catatonia Online (Catatonia)

¨Em alguns textos a catatonia é definida como uma forma de esquizofrenia marcada por períodos de rigidez, exceitação e estupor. Ela caracteriza-se por um conjunto de distúrbios psicomotores com ausência total de reação aos estímulos exteriores, imobilidade, recusa de falar e de se alimentar. Em textos modernos a catotonia édefinida como a presença de três ou mais dos seguintes: catalepsia, estupor, agitação não influenciada por estímulos externos, mutismo, negativismo, maneirismos, estereotipias, caretas, ecolalia e copraxia. É fato que os sintomas de catatonia não ocorrem especificamente na esquizofrenia, mas em uma gama de doenças psiquiátricas, como os transtornos do humor e os transtornos conversivos. A catatonia pode ser dividida em não maligna ou maligna. A maligna se caracteriza pela instabilidade autonômica, exibindo febre elevada, taquicardia e hipertensão, além de ser considerada um subtipo fulminante e rapidamente progressivo. A catatonia é uma situação clínica de emergência que requer tratamento imediato, pois a desidratação e o estupor são complicações importantes e que podem ser fatais. Benzodiazepínicos e terapia eletroconvulsiva (ECT) são os mais amplamente utilizados como formas de tratamento. ¨
