Apneia Obstrutiva do Sono em Crianças (Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnea: FTTKA)

– A apneia obstrutiva do sono em crianças atinge o pico por volta dos 4-6 anos de idade. A apneia obstrutiva do sono (AOS) é caracterizada pela obstrução parcial ou completa das vias aéreas durante o sono. A prevalência é de cerca de 1,2%. A hipertrofia adenotonsilar e a obesidade são fatores de risco comuns em crianças saudáveis. A condição também é mais comum em populações específicas de risco, incluindo crianças com trissomia do cromossomo 21, distúrbios neuromusculares, paralisia cerebral e anomalias craniofaciais.

– A AOS pediátrica não tratada pode ter consequências importantes a curto e longo prazo. A apneia obstrutiva do sono pode causar comprometimento da cognição e baixo desempenho escolar. A AOS não tratada também pode resultar em atraso no crescimento, hipertensão, distúrbios metabólicos, obesidade e problemas neuropsiquiátricos e de desenvolvimento.

– Crianças com AOS podem apresentar sintomas diferentes dos adultos

– A polissonografia é o padrão ouro para o diagnóstico de AOS; no entanto, nem sempre é necessário para avaliação ou início do tratamento

– Na presença de hipertrofia adenoamigdaliana, a adenoamigdalectomia é uma opção de tratamento eficaz
