¨A Síndrome da Bexiga Hiperativa (SBH) é caracterizada por urgência miccional com ou sem incontinência, polaciúria e noctúria, na ausência de outras patologias locais. O sintoma que mais limita os pacientes com SBH é a incontinência urinária de urgência. Seu diagnóstico é clínico, comprovado pela presença dos sintomas que a definem, dispensando a utilização de exames invasivos. Essa síndrome apresenta um impacto negativo na qualidade de vida (QV) e está associada a elevados custos econômicos. É responsável por causar adversidades de ordem social, psicológica, emocional, física e sexual, sendo considerada um sério problema de saúde que afeta, principalmente, mulheres idosas. Dados epidemiológicos norte-americanos apontam uma prevalência de 16% em sua população, enquanto que para o Brasil a estimativa é de 18%. A SBH tem origem idiopática quando não está vinculada a outra patologia. Em contrapartida, quando possui origem neurogênica, tem como causas alterações neurológicas associadas ao mecanismo da micção. Há várias opções de tratamento, sendo, as drogas antimuscarínicas orais, como a oxibutinina, consideradas terapias que reduzem os sintomas, mas relacionam-se diretamente a efeitos adversos. Ainda assim são frequentemente usadas, pois inibem a ligação da acetilcolina nos receptores muscarínicos, permitindo a diminuição do tônus do detrusor e aumentando a capacidade de armazenamento da bexiga. Os exercícios perineais surgem como um tratamento no campo da fisioterapia, que tem como objetivo o fortalecimento da musculatura do assoalho pélvico (MAP) por meio da contração e do relaxamento voluntário e repetitivo. Outro recurso é a eletroestimulação transcutânea do nervo tibial posterior (ETNTP), que é uma técnica periférica, não invasiva, utilizando corrente elétrica de baixa frequência na qual o nervo tibial posterior (ramo do nervo ciático) conduziria de forma retrógrada o estímulo elétrico até o plexo hipogástrico.
