¨A síndrome de Leriche, oclusão arterial crônica da bifurcação da aorta, é uma condição rara que acomete geralmente homens idosos em decorrência de arteriosclerose. A síndrome ocorre devida à oclusão arterial aortoiliaca, caracteriza-se por claudicação dos glúteos, coxas e região gemelar, estando freqüentemente associada a impotência sexual masculina. Os sintomas típicos da síndrome de Leriche são claudicação intermitente e sintomas relacionados a uma insuficiência arterial dos membros inferiores, um agravamento da hipertensão ou hipertensão recentemente reconhecida, disfunção erétil e perda de peso. Técnicas avançadas de diagnóstico por imagem, como a ultrassonografia abdominal e a angiotomografia computadorizada (TC), auxiliam o clínico na confirmação do diagnóstico. O tratamento é principalmente cirúrgico e consiste em endarterectomia aorto-ilíaca e bypass aortobifemoral. Procedimentos alternativos descritos são angioplastia transluminal percutânea com implante de stent e bypass axilofemoral¨
